Step-by-step
A practical plan for the job.
- 1
Inventory the whole setup
List computers, monitors and accessories separately. Record what powers on and what is missing. Check bags for external drives, memory cards or paperwork so those do not leave accidentally.
- 2
Back up and prepare personal data
Save needed files and verify the backup before erasing anything. Use the device maker’s official instructions to sign out, remove account locks and reset the machine. DEQ links to Microsoft and Apple preparation guidance from its consumer page.
- 3
Resolve a computer that will not start
If you cannot erase the device, ask a qualified data-service provider about options before surrendering it. Request a clear explanation of handling and any documentation you need. Do not assume ordinary hauling includes data destruction or a certificate.
- 4
Confirm every item with the destination
Ask the E-Cycles site about your complete list and quantity. Keep chargers together and describe a damaged laptop battery in advance. Avoid forcing, puncturing or dismantling a damaged device just to make it easier to transport.
- 5
Choose the collection effort you need
For paid pickup, send JunkPDX photos of equipment, furniture and access. An onsite estimate is free, photos support a rough range, and you approve pricing before loading. Monday–Saturday service windows must be confirmed by the crew.
