Separate important papers, photographs, jewelry, keys, medications and sentimental belongings. Label boxes clearly and keep undecided items out of any area approved for removal.

Agree on who is arranging family collections, sales and donation requests. Confirm acceptance and transport rather than assuming usable furniture will be collected. Keep those items separate until the arrangements are complete.

Start with one room or a defined list if that makes decisions easier. Share the moving date, access conditions and what must stay. Review the scope and price of each phase before work begins.

Do I have to empty every drawer before asking for an estimate?

No. You can request a walkthrough while the home is still furnished. Before removal, review drawers and storage for valuables, documents and items you want to keep. Tell the crew what remains undecided rather than including it in the hauling scope.

Can we clear one room at a time?

Yes, phased work can be reviewed. Define the items and areas included in the first visit, protect everything that stays and agree on the price. Later rooms need a separate scope and scheduling review.

Can an adult child or another family member coordinate?

An authorized contact can coordinate access, the approved contents and price decisions. Tell the crew who has that responsibility and how they can be reached; family relationship alone should not leave removal decisions unclear.

What should happen to usable furniture that will not fit?

Consider family collection, sale or donation before the removal deadline. Confirm acceptance and transport with the receiving person or organization. JunkPDX offers paid hauling for approved unwanted items; donation is not guaranteed.
