Read the model label
Photograph the manufacturer, model and serial information. Explain whether it is a portable basement unit or connected to a larger system. An air purifier, humidifier and dehumidifier do different jobs, so avoid using those names interchangeably in the request.

Check before offering reuse
Search CPSC by the exact model and follow any matching recall instructions. Tell a prospective recipient about cycling problems, unusual heat or leaks. A device that still switches on is not necessarily ready for another household.

Prepare water connections
Use the manufacturer's directions for the bucket, drain hose and stored water. If it is connected to building equipment, have the appropriate installer prepare it. Do not take the sealed cooling assembly apart to make the item fit a car.

Describe the basement carry
Show stairs, handrails, tight turns and the distance to parking. Keep the path dry and explain if the wheels no longer work. Ask the collector about its appliance route and total charges before staging the unit for pickup.
