Record its footprint and moving parts
Measure the full desktop, return and attached shelves. Photograph underneath as well as the front. For a powered standing desk, include the controller and power supply, and disclose a stalled motor or uneven lift rather than listing it simply as working.

Match the desk to a recipient
Community Warehouse lists desks up to four feet. Larger workstations need another confirmed destination. Send dimensions before reserving transport; an organization that accepts desks generally may still be unable to use yours.

Protect the work setup
Remove computers, monitors, chargers, documents and cable clips that belong to you. Check the keyboard tray and underside for attached power strips. Label any reusable hardware so a recipient can identify which bolts belong to the desk.

Plan the exit before taking it apart
Show whether the desk is upstairs, bolted to a wall or assembled inside a tight room. Ask the collector what disassembly is necessary. Keep reusable panels together; do not dismantle a donated desk until the recipient agrees to receive it that way.
