List every part of the bed separately
Count mattresses and box springs, then list frames, headboards, bedding and nearby furniture as separate items. Do not assume a mattress recycling location accepts the complete bedroom set. An adjustable base, a frame or a sofa bed may need a different destination from the mattress itself.

Use the current participating-location finder
The mattress must have been used in Oregon and discarded by an Oregon consumer. Search Bye Bye Mattress for a participating location that fits your route. Read the site's notes and contact it about today's hours, accepted quantities and whether an appointment is needed. Choose a confirmed participating collection point rather than assuming any transfer station offers the same free program.

Disclose condition and confirm handling
Describe wetness, heavy soiling, damage and any signs of pests or other contamination. Oregon program eligibility does not depend on condition or purchase date. Still disclose handling concerns to the collection site and follow its instructions; donation for reuse has different standards. Keep a usable or recyclable mattress protected from rain while you arrange transport. Ask the destination for instructions if you are uncertain.

Account for getting it out of the home
A free drop-off still requires a vehicle that fits the load, safe lifting help and secure transport. Measure the stairs and doorways and consider whether a bulky foundation can make the turns. If carrying or transport is the main difficulty, compare paid pickup with the full effort of doing the trip yourself.

Keep other disposal charges separate
Ask the destination about any non-program items in your load before going. A qualifying mattress does not make a mixed load of furniture, trash or construction debris free. Separate the bed pieces in your inventory so you understand which services and charges apply.

Choose home pickup when that fits the job
