Inspect both sides
Photograph the rug flat and show any stains, torn backing or curled edges. Describe smoke, pet odors or moisture honestly. Do not cover a questionable rug with another donation just to make the pile look presentable.

Measure and identify the pieces
List the rug's width and length and whether a separate pad is included. ReStore considers clean, undamaged rugs. Confirm your actual item and size with staff; a reusable rug does not make a dirty pad automatically acceptable.

Keep it dry while deciding
Do not stage the rug outdoors through rain. Once the destination agrees, ask about rolling and securing it for handling. Keep the label or a photo of its dimensions available so the collector can distinguish several rolled pieces.

Separate removal from floor work
A loose rug pickup does not include removing glued carpet, tack strips or flooring. If furniture sits on the rug, explain what must be moved and what remains. Include stairs and the carrying distance in the request for a hauling estimate.

Do not assume textile floor coverings belong in the household recycling bin. Use local material guidance or a confirmed disposal destination rather than mixing the rug with packaging.
Will pickup include moving my sofa off the rug?
Explain that need before the appointment. The crew must review access and the approved work; clearing a rug does not automatically authorize moving every furnishing in the room.
