Step-by-step
A practical plan for the job.
- 1
Collect decisions before combining the piles
Have each person identify their unwanted furniture, boxes and shared-space items. Discuss furniture bought together rather than assuming the person booking can release it. Separate belongings being moved, sold or collected by someone else from the items approved for hauling.
- 2
Make one item list with room locations
Count separate sofa sections, mattresses, frames and loose bags. Use room names and photos so two similar chairs or sets of shelves cannot be confused. Check drawers and boxes for personal belongings before release. Clearly label items that stay, especially when they sit beside the removal pile.
- 3
Name one onsite decision-maker
Choose a contact who understands the agreed list and can approve the final scope and price. Decide how household members will divide the cost separately before the visit. If the group has a budget limit, share it before loading and ask about a smaller approved scope if needed.
- 4
Prepare shared access
Tell everyone the planned visit and keep halls, stairs and entry doors usable. Arrange building access and loading permission when needed. Do not move another person's belongings into a shared hallway to make space. Show the crew anything that blocks the carry and let it review the handling plan.
- 5
Check changes and finish together
If a buyer collects an item or a roommate changes their mind, update the agreed list before loading. New additions need scope and price review. At completion, check each included room and confirm that kept items remain. For a move-out, leave time afterward for cleaning and the separate property handoff.
