Start with one useful goal

When helping a family member with a heavily cluttered home, the first step can be a conversation and a walkthrough. You do not need every room sorted or every decision made. Ask which space they most want help with: one bedroom, a selected group of furniture or a storage area can give the visit a starting point.

JunkPDX reviews Portland-area homes as they are. During a free, no-obligation walkthrough, we discuss priorities, belongings that stay, access and the person who can approve the work. A first phase can help you understand the scope without committing to a whole-home cleanout.

Agree on who can approve removal

Before the visit, identify who can authorize access, approve the removal list and accept the onsite quote. Tell us which family members should join or receive updates. Being the person who requests a visit does not automatically settle every removal decision.

If several people are involved, agree on how questions will be answered. Someone helping from out of town can discuss contact preferences and approvals during the walkthrough. Where ownership or a decision remains unresolved, identify the item or area for the crew to leave in place.

Arrange access when you are out of town

Protect keepsakes and undecided belongings

If safely accessible, identify documents, medications, keys, photographs and other belongings that must stay. Use a clearly marked keep area or point out protected locations during the visit. Keep undecided boxes outside the approved removal list.

Avoid treating an entire room as permission to remove everything. Tell us which decisions are settled and which should wait. You do not need to open every container or carry furniture outside before asking for help.

  • Name protected rooms, shelves or containers.
  • Keep important belongings separate from approved removal.
  • Agree on who answers questions about unexpected items.
  • Leave unresolved items in place for a later decision.

Share access concerns before the visit

Describe the entrance, parking and areas you want reviewed. Tell us about blocked access, unstable flooring, pests, needles, biological waste or other known concerns before scheduling. Do not move heavy furniture or enter an unsafe area to prepare photos.

Photos are optional. A short description of the first goal and access can start the conversation. For a Canby, Woodburn or Wilsonville property, give the actual address and ZIP, including gates, outbuildings or shared entrance details when they apply.

Bring questions to the walkthrough

Ask what the first phase includes, how the quote handles changes and what the cleared space should look like. Confirm the full price before loading. If the budget limits the scope, discuss that before agreeing on removal.

  • Can we begin with this room or item group?
  • How will protected and undecided belongings be identified?
  • Who receives updates and approves extra work?
  • What happens after this phase is complete?

Plan the cleaning and next handoff

Tell us if you want cleaning after the approved contents leave. Our cleaners can follow, with rooms, tasks, price and timing agreed separately. Repairs, pest treatment and regulated remediation need their own qualified providers.

Share a move, inspection or property-handoff deadline so the sequence can be reviewed. Requesting a walkthrough starts the project review; removal timing and any later phases are confirmed after the scope and price are approved.

Does my family member need to tidy first?

No. You can request a walkthrough with the home in its current condition. Explain what must stay and disclose known access concerns; neither a complete inventory nor photos are required.

Can some items remain undecided?

Yes. Identify those items or areas for the crew to leave alone. Only belongings approved by the authorized contact should enter the removal scope.

Does requesting a walkthrough book the cleanout?

No. We contact you to arrange the review visit, then agree on removal, optional cleaning, price and availability. No removal work is authorized just by submitting the request.
