How to Prepare for a Dumpster Loading Crew

Prepare for a Portland dumpster-loading crew: confirm container delivery, mark what stays, photograph access and share the rental company's collection deadline.

Before you plan the job

What should I do before the dumpster-loading crew arrives?

Confirm the container is available, decide what may be discarded and send photos of the items and carry route. Share your rental provider's material and loading rules, plus the collection deadline. Leave the heavy carrying to the agreed crew plan; you do not need to move everything outside first.

For your Portland-area project, review dumpster loading help or call the local crew at (971) 325-2491.

Step-by-step

A practical plan for the job.

  1. 1

Confirm delivery and the work window

Coordinate with the dumpster company before requesting labor. Tell JunkPDX when the container will arrive and when it must be ready for collection. Allow time for the agreed loading work between those events. If delivery changes, contact the crew promptly so an empty driveway does not become a wasted appointment.

  2. 2

    Make the discard decisions

Mark items to load and keep uncertain belongings in a separate area. Remove documents, keys, medication and personal items from furniture or boxes. Name one authorized person who can answer questions during the job. The crew follows the approved scope; it should not decide whether a family member's belongings are trash.

  3. 3

Show the route, then clear it

Send photos of stairs, tight turns, doorways, gates and the container placement. Clear loose obstacles, arrange building access and keep pets and children away from the work route. Tell us about an elevator reservation or parking restriction before the day. Do not attempt a difficult lift just to get a better photo.

  4. 4

    Share container and material instructions

Give us the provider name, container size, loading rules and item restrictions. Identify what is already inside. Flag sharp objects, unusually heavy pieces, wet material and anything unknown before work. Keep restricted materials out of the planned load unless acceptance and handling have been confirmed.

  5. 5

    Agree on the final walkthrough

Show the crew the approved areas and identify any priority items. Before leaving, review what was loaded and any contents left because they were excluded or the container reached a limit. If more work is needed, agree on the next step before assuming a second trip or extra labor is included.

Common questions

Before you schedule.

Should I put everything in the driveway first?

No. Request carrying help from the item's current location and send access photos. Only stage what you can safely move and what the agreed plan calls for.

What if my dumpster arrives late?

Contact both the rental provider and JunkPDX as soon as you know. The crew schedule and any change in work time need to be reviewed; do not assume the original appointment can simply run later.

Can I be away during loading?

Discuss access and authorization in advance. A clearly marked scope and a reachable decision-maker are essential. Remote arrangements must be confirmed before the crew is scheduled.
