Check the delivery order first
Ask the retailer whether haul-away is included, which pieces qualify and whether the old item must be prepared or disconnected. A sofa delivery may not include an extra chair, bed frame or furniture from another room. Get a clear item list so you do not arrange two providers for the same piece or leave extra furniture unassigned.

List every piece leaving
Count sectional bases, ottomans, mattresses, foundations, frames and other furniture separately. Send photos of the complete group and identify sleeper mechanisms, glass, stone or unusually heavy parts. Describe damage, moisture or pests before the visit. The outside dimensions alone do not explain the handling needed.

Choose a removal plan that fits the deadline
If the furniture is suitable for reuse, ask a recipient to confirm acceptance and collection before relying on donation. Set a cutoff for any sale or free collection so a no-show does not consume the remaining time. Separate the two appointments
Share the delivery date and the time the room must be ready, not just your preferred pickup window. Ask whether the removal scope and capacity can be confirmed before scheduling the next vendor. When practical, leave a gap for cleaning and unexpected access delays. Same-day openings depend on the route and are not a guaranteed delivery-rescue service.

Reserve building access for each crew
For a Portland apartment or condo, confirm elevator reservations, loading space, entry instructions and permitted work hours with the building. Give each provider its own access plan. Do not stage the old furniture in a shared hall or loading lane without permission, and do not assume one reservation covers both crews.

Prepare the room and approve the quote
Remove personal belongings from drawers, secure pets and show the exit route. Mark any furniture that is staying, including similar pieces nearby. Approve the final onsite price before loading. After removal, check the area and complete any separate cleaning needed before the replacement arrives.
