Portland Home Office Cleanout: Keep the Records, Clear the Furniture

Plan a Portland home office cleanout: protect records, separate devices and show the desk's carry route before approving your JunkPDX removal estimate.

Decide what the room needs to become

A home office cleanout can make room for a new desk, a guest room or a simpler workspace. Start with that goal rather than treating everything in the room as junk. List the furniture that leaves, the equipment you still use and anything belonging to an employer or another household member.

If you are replacing only the desk and a bookcase, identify that limited scope. If the whole room is being reset, check closets, drawers and nearby storage too. Give the crew one complete removal list so the estimate reflects the work you actually want.

  • Mark furniture and equipment that stay.
  • Empty drawers and check shelves for personal belongings.
  • Separate employer-owned, borrowed and undecided items.

Remove records and devices from the hauling scope

Check desk drawers, filing cabinets and storage boxes for documents, keys, drives and personal records before approving removal. Keep those items in a clearly marked area away from the furniture leaving. Junk hauling is not a secure document-destruction or data-erasure service.

Arrange any confidential-record destruction or device data work separately. Tell the crew which electronics are approved for removal and disclose batteries or unusual components before the visit. Check item acceptance rather than assuming every device can be added to an ordinary mixed load.

Show the desk in place before moving it

Photograph large desks, bookcases and filing cabinets where they currently sit. Include the door, stair turns and the route to legal truck parking. Mention a piece assembled inside the room or attached to a wall so any agreed dismantling can be reviewed in advance.

You do not need to carry heavy furniture outside for an estimate. Leave difficult pieces in place and keep a clear path around them. For an apartment office, include the building loading rules and any elevator access. The handling plan and full price are confirmed before loading.

Combine approved leftovers into one estimate

A broken office chair, unused shelving and packaging may be part of the same pickup as the desk. Show every item group rather than photographing only the largest piece. Tell us about dense materials, heavy cabinets or anything needing special disposal so the quote covers the complete load.

Moving a desk you are keeping is a different request from hauling it away. JunkPDX offers separately arranged labor-only moving help when you provide and drive the vehicle. Keep the move list and removal list separate so neither scope is assumed to include the other.

Leave time for the next use of the room

If new furniture, flooring or painting is scheduled, share that date and allow time to inspect the cleared space. Contents removal does not automatically include repairs or deep cleaning. At the free onsite estimate, agree on what leaves, the price and the finish condition before work begins. Pickups run Monday–Saturday in available two-hour arrival windows.
